Get to know Alan Balla, Business Development Manager specialising in energy infrastructure for data centre and renewable energy connections, at Ausconnex!
Tell us a bit about your role at Ausconnex.
I joined Ausconnex in February as a Business Development Manager. My scope includes building up involvement in the data centres market, which Ausconnex has commenced in the last few years and developing our expansion into the substations for renewable and BESS projects.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the autonomy and the variation that comes from growing opportunities in developing and new markets. It is rewarding and satisfying to be aligning the vision to support the journey toward Net Zero as Australia invests in renewable infrastructure.
What are some of your highlights so far?
The clear highlight is joining a team that operates with such positivity and drive to achieve success. The openness to assist each other based on individual skills and capabilities rather than roles or job titles is what makes Ausconnex a great place to work.
What is one of the biggest highlights of your career so far?
I established supply of a major overseas transformer manufacturer into the Australian market, which involved setting up the entire supply chain; everything from obtaining product approval to meet Australian Standards, developing systems and processes for distribution to pre- and after-sales support. I feel (and I believe that most people would agree with me) that the introduction of a new competitor into that market had a positive impact on the electrical infrastructure industry.
Tell us something people might be surprised to learn about you.
I spend a lot of time in the colder months working on my rural property, which keeps me very busy using lots of toys like excavators and backhoes. In the summer months you’ll find me playing or refereeing water polo.
