Meet Mark Lester, Site Supervisor at Ausconnex!
Mark, tell us a bit about your role at Ausconnex.
I joined Ausconnex in April 2021 as a Site Supervisor. My job requires me to plan civil and electrical works on various projects to meet our client’s needs and expectations. A critical part is ensuring all the work meets our policies, procedures, and safety standards.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Coming from a Transmission and Distribution overhead role I have learnt many more skills associated with civil and road constructions. It’s been great working within the various sectors of the construction industry and providing solutions for our clients.
Highlights so far?
Working on major projects such the M12 and electrical supply to the new Western Sydney International Airport. Without a doubt a highlight is working with the Ausconnex team; I love their attitude and drive. It’s great to be a part of it!
Some of your biggest highlights of your career so far?
Gaining my Transmission ticket and working on a major project in the middle of South Australia doing fly in fly out work – it’s something I always wanted to experience. Being able to accomplish this and then use my knowledge to assist in delivering projects with Ausconnex has been one of my biggest highlights so far.
Tell us something about yourself that people might be surprised to learn.
Before I entered this industry 14 years ago, I worked in international banking – foreign exchange and cash markets and settling large money transactions for large companies on the Stock Exchange.
I’m also a massive Star Wars fan with a big collection (toys as my wife calls it) from my childhood.
What do you do when you aren’t at Ausconnex?
With two teenage children I spend most of my time at their sporting activities during the winter months. I’m a trainer for my son’s football team—it’s something I’ve done for the past 11 years. During summer we spend our time camping and visiting family and seeking new locations to explore. We also are long time members of the Panthers and spend a lot of time supporting our team with our extended family.
Describe your time at Ausconnex so far.
Challenging, rewarding and exciting!
